What are GMP 21 CFR Part 110 and FSMA ?
GMP stands for Good Manufacturing Practices. The 21 CFR Part 110 are regulations from the Food and Drug Administration that deal primarily with food sanitation, food handling and food preparation. As a secondary packaging supplier for companies preparing and selling food products, it is important that our shipping boxes and other packaging are produced in a facility complying with these regulations.
The FSMA stands for the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act. This act was signed into law by President Obama in 2011. The act was the first major overhaul of our nation’s food safety practices since 1938. The legislation aims to prevent contamination of food to reduce incidents of foodborne illnesses.
What does all this mean for my business?
If you are a food manufacturer, you can trust that Wunderlich is completely committed to safe quality food packaging and will engage in ongoing activities to ensure we stay compliant with FDA regulations for secondary packaging.
“We have spent the past three years investing in quality programs, training, and equipment to bring our facility into FSMA compliance for food-safe packaging,” said Wunderlich assistant plant manager and GMP coordinator, Chris Hausmann. “We have trained our employees on food-safety GMP’s, developed product defense plans, have excellent traceability and sanitation programs. These improvements have really made us a better company.”
